All in One PC vs Normal PC: Which Is Better for Your Desk in the UAE?

All in One PC vs Normal PC: Which Is Better for Your Desk in the UAE?

You've got a desk, a budget, and two very different boxes to choose from. One is a slim screen with a computer hiding behind it. The other is a tower, a monitor, and a small jungle of cables.

So, all in one pc vs normal pc: which wins? If you care about power per dirham, future upgrades and cheaper fixes, the normal PC usually wins. If you care about space, a tidy desk and a five-minute set-up, the all-in-one wins. Your own workload decides the rest.

Here's how the two compare on price, performance, upgrades, repairs and power use, plus what to check before you buy in the UAE.

What's the Difference Between an All in One PC and a Normal PC?

An all-in-one (AIO) packs the processor, motherboard and display into one unit. A normal desktop splits them up. The tower holds the components, and you plug in a separate monitor, keyboard and mouse. Lenovo's desktop vs all-in-one guide puts it simply: a desktop is modular, an all-in-one is compact and integrated.

Here's the part most comparisons skip. TechRadar's side-by-side comparison points out that AIOs count as desktop computers too. So when you search "all in one pc vs pc", the real contest is an AIO against a tower, mini or stick PC.

All in One PC vs PC: Price and Value

Price is where the all-in-one usually loses. Lenovo says AIOs often carry a higher upfront cost, and their limited upgrades can make them less cost-effective over time. ENERGY STAR's buying guidance also labels them the more expensive desktop option.

Which? put numbers on it. It compared an HP Pavilion 24 all-in-one at £699 with an Acer XC-885 tower at £499, both with near-identical specs. Add a £120 monitor and £30 speakers, and the tower setup still came out at least £49 cheaper, according to Which?'s false economy test. Those are UK prices from June 2020, so don't copy the figures. Copy the method: price the tower, monitor and speakers separately, then compare.

There's a second catch. In the testing behind that article, AIOs averaged just 1.8 out of 5 for speakers and 2.5 out of 5 for screens. Buy separately and you choose both yourself. Buy an AIO and you're stuck with whatever the maker bundled.

All in One PC vs Desktop: Which Is Better for Work and Gaming?

All in one pc vs desktop which is better? It depends on the job.

For everyday work

For emails, Office files, browsing and video calls, an AIO is plenty. TechRadar says a light workflow like Microsoft Office and web browsing should run fine on an AIO with integrated graphics, without the machine heating up. If that's you, don't pay for power you'll never use.

For gaming and editing

Gaming, video editing and 3D work are a different story. Lenovo says a desktop is generally the better choice for gaming because you can fit dedicated graphics, stronger CPUs and better cooling.

Which? saw the same pattern. Its tested AIO used a lower-power "T" processor because the case has less room to cool components, which made it slower than the near-identical tower. TechRadar adds that demanding software on an AIO can cause thermal throttling when ventilation is limited. Its one exception is Apple's M1 iMac, which it rates for editing and design work.

Can You Upgrade an All in One PC?

Partly. Lenovo says you can usually upgrade RAM and storage on an AIO, but the CPU and graphics card may be difficult or impossible to replace. ENERGY STAR explains why: components are tightly packed behind and underneath the display, while full-sized desktops are the easiest to upgrade and repair.

Real machines vary a lot. iFixit's Surface Studio teardown found the processor, GPU and RAM soldered to the board, though the storage could be replaced. The Studio scored 5 out of 10 for repairability. At the other end, iFixit's HP Z1 teardown gave an all-in-one workstation a perfect 10 out of 10, with major parts that snapped in and out.

So check the spec sheet before you buy. Look for accessible RAM slots and a replaceable drive, and ask the seller directly if the listing doesn't say.

Are All in One PCs Harder to Repair?

Usually, yes. TechRadar says AIO repairs can get pricey because the case is harder to open, and a failed display or speaker means sending the entire machine away. It also notes that opening an AIO can go against the warranty in some cases. ENERGY STAR's guidance lands in the same place: AIO designs can be difficult to upgrade or repair.

On a tower, a dead graphics card is a part swap. On an AIO, the whole computer, screen included, sits at the shop while it's fixed. That's the hidden cost nobody prints on the spec sheet.

This is where pickup changes the maths. FixBuddy's desktop and iMac repair page lists desktops and iMacs, covers major brands including HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, ASUS and Apple, and runs on four steps: pickup, diagnose and quote, repair, deliver. You approve the quote before any work starts.

Customers describe the pickup side well. Naufaan Abdulla wrote that the team came to his place and repaired his laptop at 10pm. Faris said the team came directly to his place, diagnosed the problem and fixed it quickly. Both were laptop jobs, but the repair page offers the same pickup flow for desktops.

Got an older machine? Mohamad Al-Askari's very old HP Pavilion dv6 had a dead display, and spare parts were hard to find. The team still sourced replacements and fixed it at a price he called very reasonable. Get a quote before you bin a tired PC.

Space, Set-Up and Power Use

This is the all-in-one's home turf. Lenovo says AIOs are compact, easier to set up because everything lives in one unit, and easier to move than a tower setup. TechRadar adds that you skip the accessory shopping, since the screen, speakers and webcam are already built in. That helps in a small flat where every plug is already taken.

Power use is less clear-cut. Lenovo says AIOs generally draw less power than desktops because the design is consolidated. It also warns that a high-performance desktop can use more than a basic AIO, so the exact spec matters more than the category.

ENERGY STAR says certified computers use about 30-40% less energy than standard models. Its specification covers both desktops and integrated desktops, so the label works on either type. It's a US programme, so check the spec sheet for it rather than assuming.

Ergonomics goes to the tower. Lenovo notes that separate parts let you position the monitor, keyboard and mouse more freely.

Which Should You Buy?

Still stuck between an all in one or pc tower? Ask which part of the table you'd regret most: space, speed or fixing it.

  • Choose an all-in-one if your desk is small, your workload is light (Office, browsing, video calls) and you want to plug in and go.

  • Choose a normal PC if you game, edit video, run VR or want to upgrade later. You also pick your own monitor and keep repairs simpler.

  • Choose a laptop if you move around. TechRadar notes that AIOs move more easily than towers but aren't portable like laptops. FixBuddy's renewed laptops are the budget route.

Buying Renewed: An All-in-One Option in the UAE

If the price gap bothers you, renewed stock narrows it. FixBuddy's renewed desktops collection currently lists two HP ProOne 400 G6 24-inch all-in-ones, both with an i5 10th-gen processor and a 256GB SSD. The 8GB version costs AED 1,349. The 16GB HP ProOne costs AED 1,519, which is AED 170 more. Both are graded Very Good. Prices were checked on 22 October 2026, so confirm them on the page.

Per FixBuddy's renewed vs refurbished guide, every renewed unit passes a 50-point inspection and carries a 12-month warranty with a 7-day return window.

That warranty matters here. YouGov's UAE refurbished survey of 1,052 adults found 27% had already bought refurbished electronics and another 40% would consider it. Among recent electronics buyers, a guarantee of at least a year was the top nudge at 33%, ahead of price cuts (31%) and reputable sellers (30%). The survey dates from January 2023, but the pattern is clear.

Check Windows before you pay

One more test for any older all-in-one or tower. Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on 14 October 2025. On its Windows 10 end of support page, Microsoft says PCs that meet the Windows 11 minimum requirements can upgrade for free. Eligible Windows 10 PCs can also enrol in Extended Security Updates through 12 October 2027.

So ask which Windows version the exact unit runs and whether it's eligible for Windows 11. You can message us on WhatsApp for the grade, inspection details and Windows version of the specific machine you're eyeing.

The Short Answer

Pick the all-in-one if space, looks and speed of set-up matter most and your workload is light. Pick the normal PC if you want power per dirham, upgrades and simpler repairs. Pick neither blindly: check the spec sheet for upgradeable RAM and storage, price the tower setup separately, and ask about warranty and Windows support.

Either way, it's worth knowing who'll fix it when something breaks.

FAQ

Is an all in one PC better than a normal PC?

Not automatically. An all-in-one wins on space, tidiness and set-up speed. A normal PC wins on price, upgrades, cooling and repair costs. TechRadar's verdict gave the desktop a slight overall edge, mostly on price.

Can you upgrade an all in one PC?

Usually only RAM and storage, according to Lenovo. The CPU and graphics card are often fixed or very hard to replace. Check the exact model's specs first, because teardowns show big differences between machines.

Are all in one PCs good for gaming?

Generally no. Lenovo says desktops suit gaming better thanks to dedicated graphics and stronger cooling. TechRadar notes that most Windows AIOs use integrated graphics, which can struggle with demanding games.

Is an all in one PC cheaper than a normal PC?

Usually not. ENERGY STAR calls AIOs the more expensive desktop option. In Which?'s 2020 UK comparison, a tower plus monitor and speakers still came out at least £49 cheaper than a near-identical all-in-one.

Do all in one PCs use less power than desktops?

Often, on basic specs. Lenovo says AIOs generally draw less power, but a high-performance desktop can use more than a basic AIO. ENERGY STAR-certified computers use about 30-40% less energy than standard models.

Is a renewed all in one PC worth buying in the UAE?

It can be, if the seller states what was tested, the grade and the warranty. FixBuddy's renewed units carry a 50-point inspection, a 12-month warranty and 7-day returns. Also confirm Windows 11 eligibility, since Windows 10 support ended on 14 October 2025.

Can FixBuddy repair an all in one PC?

The repair page lists desktops and iMacs across major brands, with pickup from your home or office. The technicians diagnose the device and send a quote, and work starts only after you approve it. Book a pickup on the repair page or ask on WhatsApp about your model.
